Understanding Social & Recreational Supports

What is social and recreational support?

If you were to look up what this term means, you may find a very black and white answer. How we view social and recreational supports within the NDIS sphere as a provider of these services is far more complex.

The importance of social and recreational support for people with disability is viewed by AkinCare as a vital and integral part of our services delivery to enrich the lives of our participants and empower them to be the best that they can be. These social and recreational activities may look like an outing with friends or visiting family and learning new skills or engaging in your hobbies. We tailor our support to each participant’s needs and preferences.

Why is social and recreational support so important?

Social and recreational support is key to the NDIS achieving its objective to support people with a disability to achieve independence, social and economic participation.

But why is it important to the participant?

Our participants aren’t a number or a statistic with AkinCare, more like family, and we know these supports DO make a difference in the lives of our participants. We believe in building a village. Having a supportive network can give you a sense of belonging, it can help you to feel more secure and less alone. No two participants are the same when it comes to how their village is built and everyone’s needs are unique to their own experience. We strive to tailor what our support looks like for our participants on paper and in practice, ensuring you are getting the most out of your NDIS plan and our services.

Our staff come with glowing feedback from previous and current participants, and follow our family creed; “We support, encourage and empower people to live a full and participative life; contributing to community and having a real, fulfilling lived experience regardless of what hurdles they may face”

Our participants are at the heart of everything we do and we encourage and empower our participants through the level of choice, influence and control they can exercise over events in their lives, their support and their surroundings. This model of support that AkinCare offers is truly why we believe our participants choose us.

If you or someone you know is looking to build their village there’s no better time to start than right now with AkinCare.
